The section on the previous page about who's out and not is really sloppy and vindictive and does not belong in an encyclopedia. It really should be there only if the person has chosen to announce his/her sexuality, not to provide speculation on it. Look, all you straight people, let me tell you up front, since obviously no one else has: you mock us, harass us, fire us, beat us to death, and then act like we don't deserve any respect when self-preservation kicks in and we decide not to be out about it. Yet if we're out about it, you accuse us of trying to "convert" people, like we're on some kind of damn commission program, or as if we want anything different from you. And god forbid we push for equal rights, e.g., the right to be with the people we love in public without having to worry about some bigot coming along to beat the shit out of us and leave us to die on a post, or the right to insurance for our lifetime companions... So to all you naive well-meaning clueless people asking, "What do you people want?", here's what we, queer america, want:

:We want to be able to walk in public with our loved ones and not face harassment, just like straight people.

:We want to live our lives in peace, without being insulted or threatened every day of our lives, just like straight people.

That's it.

We're not after your children, or your pets, or your grandparents. Why is it such a big deal to you who's straight or not? Do you think queerness is contagious? Do you honestly think we could convince a straight person to be gay? Do you honestly think you'd still have David Duchovny if we could? Or, is that it--you're maybe afraid of your own occasional tendencies, and you couldn't stand it if you were to have an affair, because then you'd have to start believing all the vicious things you've said about other people about yourselves too. So you "choose" to believe that sexuality is a choice, and that you had the good sense to choose to be straight. Well do you really think any person at all would choose to put himself into a position where every day he had to prepare to leave the house because he's bound to be scorned, mocked, threatened, or beaten to death? Do you really think any person would choose to put him/herself in a position where he/she could not be with the person he/she loves, unashamed, without fear of being cut off from all "friends" and family?

So now you see we're offended and want to ask the classic naive & horrified--"Can't we all just be friends?" NO. Not until you take your goddam foot out of my back.

Typical BS from someone that probabally sees discrimination under every rock, every day, and everywhere. Just as bad as those that somehow manage to work religion or god into every comment, question, or utterance.

Cynical indifference is p-r-o-b-a-b-l-y best viewed as a convenience not everyone has.

Re. television stations and networks. Much of what's listed on the Stations page are production companies and syndicators. A network (US) is an entity that provides programs to individual television stations, which, in the US, are only licensed to broadcast in their specific locales. Each network can a specific number--used to be 8--of "O & O's", stations it owns and operates, usually in the big markets.

Satellite and cable have created changes. Broadcast stations in an area can sign up to be carried on cable, but content providers like the Learning Channel can too. They aren't licensed to run broadcast equipment like a station and they don't provide content to licensed broadcasters either. AMT

This is a page that's well overdue for a major shake up. We probably need a new topic: [Television programmes]? a-z. We probably need a Television personalities topic as well. And a [Television programme categories]? topic for e.g. TV cookery, TV gardening etc. sjc

I'd like to see some date on the historical TV show. e.g. 1967-1971 etc.

[Wallace and Grommit]? are essentially television. They had their big break in TV. Until the film, they were quite content with a quiet life in the UK appearing on Bank Holidays. They will always be a staple of wet Bank Holiday Mondays in my mind. Of course, Hollywood may go to their heads... sjc

Those two sentences are US-centric, to a greater or lesser degree. Was the CBS network the first in the world, or just the U.S.? Also, I presume by the RCA system you mean NTSC? -- SJK
