West Side Story

West Side Story is a musical play closely based on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet with the action transplanted to the West Side of New York City. Tony and Maria fall in love, despite the fact that they are associated with rival street gangs -- Tony with the Jets, a "white" gang, and Maria with the Sharks, a Puerto Rican gang.

West Side Story was made into a film in 1961, directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise.

Bernstein's score for the musical has been extremely popular. Some of the songs include "Something's Coming", "Maria", "America", "Tonight", "Gee, Officer Krupke", "I Feel Pretty", "One Hand, One Heart" and "Cool".
