The Tiber is an historic river; at 252 miles, it is the second longest in Italy, after the Po, and flows through Rome. It was named after an early Italian king, Tiberinus?.

The Tiber has been an important river in trade and commerce since the days of the Punic Wars, during which the harbor at Ostia? became a key naval base.
