Shuttle Orbiter Enterprise (NASA Designation: OV-101)

The Space Shuttle Enterprise is a test vehicle that has never been launched into space. Instead, it was dropped from aircraft to test its gliding characteristics and avionics. The Enterprise was constructed without a functional heat shield, and so would not have survived actual reentry.

The Enterprise was named after the starship featured on the television show Star Trek. It is currently in storage at the [Smithsonian Institute]?.
