rn is a
Unix program designed to help users read network news (short for Read News). Early versions of 'rn' accessed the
Usenet news directly from the server it was running on. Later versions improved its capabilities and it was able to access news residing on other servers in a client-server manner via
NNTP (the Network News Transport Protocol), and was developed by
Larry Wall. In 2001, not many people use rn, but they may use one of its decendents:
trn, strn?.
