Reinhard Tristan Eugen Heydrich (1904-1942) aka
Der Henker (German for
the hangman) was a lieutenant in the
Nazi German paramilitary corps - the
SS led by
Heinrich Himmler. Heydrich was one of the main architects of the
Holocaust during the first years of
World War II.
In May 1942 he was shot by Czech patriots. A few days later the entire male population of the village of Lidice was murdered in retaliation.
