Philip Zimmermann is the creator of
Pretty Good Privacy (
PGP). He was the first to make asymmetric encryption available to the masses - which was the reason why he was soon charged by the
Federal Bureau of Investigation and he nearly had to go to prison for his achievement.
As of February 2001, Zimmermann left [Network Associates]?, who bought the PGP label in 1997.
