Sigmund Freud generalized this and claimed that all men want to kill their father & sleep with their mother - this he termed the [Oedipal Complex]?. He similarly claimed that all daughters want to sleep with their fathers.
Freud's theory is clearly unscientific, particularly when one considers that an individual who denies his wish to sleep with his mother would be accused by a psychoanalyst? of doing so because he is repressing? his wishes, thus bringing into play another of Freud's pet theories.
