[Home]Maquis

The Maquis is a collective name for the various French resistance forces during World War II. The Maquis was comprised of both communist groups and right-wing nationalists. That there was a degree of cooperation between groups who were as politically diverse represented a triumph of achievement for their British and French coordinators and the political ingenuity of the leader of the Free French, [General de Gaulle]?. Liaison between London and the resistance was effected by a number of means, including the parachute-dropping or landing of agents in France, encrypted wireless broadcasts, and cryptic messages contained within broadcasts made by the BBC.

The principal organisations which constituted the French resistance were:

[Front National]?
[Organisation Civile et Militaire]?
[Ceux de la Resistance]?
[Ceux de la Liberation]?
Liberation?
