Loran

Loran-C is a terrestrial radio-navigation system using ground-based transmitters operating at 100 kHz. Loran-C was both a precursor to, and is complementary to, the satellite-based GPS system.

The system was deployed particularly to cover coastal waters in the United States but was also deployed on major inland lakes. A similar system was deployed in Europe named the Decca Navigation System.
