monastery of
Lindisfarne was founded by Saint
Aidan, who had been sent from
Iona to Northumbria
? at the request of King Oswald around
635 A.D.
Sacked by the Vikings in 793.
They produced the famous illuminated manuscript, the [Lindisfarne Gospels]?. The Gospels date to the early 700s and an English translation was added between the Latin lines in the 900s.
