City on the river Tom in the Kemerovo Region in Russia. Population - 520 600 people. Main industries are chemical and machine building. There are 5 higher education institutions, several museums. The history of the city goes back to 1720 when a settlemt was founded. Kemerovo was given the status of the city in 1918.
