Juan Gris (1887-1927): "I can make a bottle out of a cylinder." Artist as architect - example, in his Le Tourangeau straight lines emphasize curved lines, his philosophy one that geometry of the layout is a necessary predicate to cubism of any sort. His work is closely allied to synthetic cubism.
