Inosite triphosphate (short InsP?3), together with diacylglycerole, is a second messenger molecule used in cellular signal transduction. It is made from [phosphatidyl inosite]?, a phospholipid, that is located in the plasma membrane, by phospholipase C. Its main functions are to mobilize Ca2+ from storage organelles, to regulate [cell proliferation]? and other cellular reactions. For example, in Drospohila?, InsP?3 is used for intracellular transduction of light recognition in eye cells. It can be removed and reconstructed in the [inosite cycle]?.
