A ganglion is a group of nerve cell bodies (see neuron) outside the central nervous system. The group of nerve cell bodies in the central nervous system is named as nucleus. There are two major groups of ganglia: spinal ganglia and autonomic ganglia. The former contains the cell bodies of sensory nerves and the latter contains the cell bodies of autonomic nerves. An interconnected group of ganglia is called a plexus.
