Evolution Poll/Talk

I'd really like to see real facts here. What were the exact questions, and what was the sample set? I know Americans are scientific idiots in general, but I just can't believe that so many are that gullible. --LDC

I have a horrible feeling he's not going to be far off, LDC. Those numbers seem a little high, based on things I've read, but only a little. Getting the precise methodology of the survey will be important before we enter anything into the article.

Sidenote: I don't think this needs to be a separate article. Verified numbers, when and if found, should be included in the main article(s), and this "evolution poll" should be canned. Good place for it now, while we sort out the facts, however. - MMGB

I found a better statement of the results, and placed it here. We'll get it sorted out eventually. In any case, I would appreciate it if we kept the poll results in the Creationist articles and out of the science articles; polls don't matter in science. --LDC

On the other hand, there's again a blurred distinction between the teaching of "evolution" (meaning God had no part of it) and evolution with God having a part in it (Intelligent Design, a term that didn't appear on the web page you cited).

Adherents of ID want the origin of life to be taught about, with ID (of course) taught as a possibility ("scientific hypothesis" or not), along with Darwinian evolution taught as a hypotheisis (NOT a FACT). The other form of Creationism can be mentioned, too. Hmm, not sure I like the tone of what I just said. Am I too close to the issue? Ed Poor

Need to distinguish "the theory of evolution" in particular from "evolution" in general. This has a bearing on several other articles and is why I originally mentioned the poll. By the way, thanks to LDC who (I think) found the external link. --Ed Poor
