The old article follows:

Coffee bean: A bean. A major cash crop.

Coffee drink: A hot beverage prepared by passing hot water onto or through ground roasted coffee beans. A stimulant due to the effects of caffeine.

The use of coffee as a drink appears to have originated in Arabia and was a popular way for Muslims to stay focused during prayer.

Someone else wrote:

[Cappucin Monks]? discovered the stimulating effects.

I don't know if this is true, however the name for the cappuccino drink probably derives from the similarity between the drink's appearance and the Cappucin Monks' habit.

(The above looks like an [old wives tale]? to me. --hajhouse)
