Chlorophyceae

The Chlorophyceae are one of the classes of green algae, distinguished manly on the basis of ultrastructural morphology. They are divided into the following groups:

• Order Dunaliellales?
• Order Chalmydomonadales? (e.g. Chlamydomonas)
• Order Volvocales? (e.g. Pandorina, Pleodorina, Volvox)
• Order Chlorococcales? (e.g. Chlorella)
• Order Tetrasporales? (e.g. Tetraspora)
• Order Chlorosarcinales?
• Order Sphaeropleales?
• Order Microsporales?
• Order Oedogoniales? (e.g. Oedogonium)
• Order Cylindrocapsales?
• Order Chaetophorales?

In older classifications, the term Chlorophyceae is sometimes used to apply to all the green algae except the Charales?, and the internal division is considerably different.
