Cephalic Index

The cephalic index is a measurement first used in physical anthropology: the ratio of the length of the head to its breadth, sometimes multiplied by 100 for convenience. Except for descriptions of individuals' appearances, it is of little use, and has no correlation with behavior.

Cephalic indicies are grouped as

• dolichocephalic, or "long head"
• mesocephalic, or "moderate head"
• brachycephalic, or "short head"
