Britney Jean Spears is an American pop singer. Born December 2, 1981 in Kentwood, Louisiana, Britney first came to fame as a member of the [Disney Channel]?'s Mickey Mouse Club in the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

Castmates included [Justin Timberlake]?, and [Joshua Chasez]?, who later became members of the pop band N Sync, and [Christina Aguilera]?, also a pop singer. Spears now dates (and shares a house with) Timberlake.

Her first album, Baby One More Time, debuted in the number 1 spot on the [Billboard Charts]? in early 1999, and also topped the charts in the UK. The single of the same title was also a number 1 hit in many countries, and featured a memorable videoclip with Spears wearing a tied-up shirt striding provocatively through a high-school corridor. Her followup album, Oops I Did It Again was a similarly huge success.

From that album her career skyrocketed into a multimillion dollar music, advertisment, concert and TV-special mania. She is currently a Pepsi spokeswoman, but has, according to an Australian tabloid, drank Pepsi's long time rival, Coca-Cola. This is indicitive of what Britney Spears is; a mixed messege, and an enigma: She uses blatant sexual dance moves, wears provocative, skimpy outfits, and sings music about her lack of innocence, and her wishes to be a 'slave for you.' While Miss. Spears seems to be every youngman's dream, she claims to still, at age 20, be a virgin, and no one has presented a credible objection to that claim. She also denies her attempts to be explict, though any youngman could write a thesis 'counting the ways.'

Her latest album, Britney, was released in November 6th, 2001. The first single "I'm A Slave 4U" is an R&B-influenced, slightly more mature-sounding tune probably indicating Spears' attempts to grow with her audience beyond young 'tween' [pre-teens acting like teens, a term incently attributed to the influence of provocative sexuality of people like Miss. Spears] and teen boys are her biggest audience. Though some speculate she will be forgotten in the annals of pop culture, a recent article in GQ compares her not to a potential "Where are they now?'"guest, but to Elvis and his early and controversial antics. Whatever becomes of Miss. Spears it is sure to attract attention.
