[Home]Baseball statistics/total bases

"Total bases" is the number of bases a player has gained with hits, i.e. the sum of his/her hits weighted by 1 for a single, 2 for a double, 3 for a triple and 4 for a home run.

What about bases from walks, errors, stolen bases, and from getting knocked around by other hitters? Don't these count as 'total bases'?

Not as defined by statisticians, no. Total bases is a misnomer, 'weighted hits' would be better, but 'total bases' is what they're called.
