I think there should be a mention to the way the different
alkanes are related to common fuels, and their physical
properties.
Methane is a gas at normal condition, and very difficult to
liquify, (methane + ethane = natural gas? not sure), butane and propane are also gases, but they can be
liquified rather easily, and so they are sold in cilinders,
in liquid form. Those cilinders are easily recharged.
pentane and hexane, i'm not sure, but heptane and octane are
liquid in normal conditions, are main constituents of gasoline.
Somewhere in the tens of carbons, the alkanes are solid in normal
conditions (paraffine)....etc..
